Who I am

Laura Garofalo | Marketing Strategist for Women Entrepreneurs

I’m Laura Garofalo, a growth marketer and content strategist with 15+ years of agency experience.

I help women entrepreneurs communicate their value in a way that drives real business growth. Not just visibility, but actual opportunities, clients, and revenue.

Hello!

How I got here

I grew up in PR agencies, supporting high-growth, innovative companies at Schwartz Communications and MSLGROUP. That foundation led me to Inkhouse, where I spent nearly a decade working alongside Founder and CEO Beth Monaghan at the intersection of marketing and business development.

When you’re close to the founder, every detail matters because it directly impacts their revenue and reputation. That experience shaped me, and I’m a more creative, proactive, and accountable leader because of it.

There are so many career highlights squeezed into this period of my life. Everything from building a content machine to leading a rebrand and improving our position in the market. I also became a mom to three boys along the way.

What I do now

When I left corporate life and started Professional Banter LLC, I kept seeing the same pattern: women entrepreneurs building incredible businesses were getting stuck when it came to marketing themselves. They were overthinking content, defaulting to tactics that didn’t match their goals, and trying to figure it all out alone.

Women own more than 40% of businesses in the U.S. and are launching companies faster than ever—often without access to the strategic marketing and business development knowledge I’ve spent my career building. Sharing my expertise with other women entrepreneurs brings me great joy and a strong sense of purpose.

Why hire me?

Most marketing consultants operate in one lane. I don't. My background spans PR, communications, content, and business development. I’ve qualified thousands of companies and worked closely with dozens of brands, which trained me to quickly identify what’s working, what’s not, and where the biggest opportunities are. That cross-functional perspective is rare, and it's what makes my approach different.

  • “Laura's strategic, intelligent, hard-working, and kind. I trust her implicitly, and all these years later, I still learn something new every time I talk to her.”

—Beth Andrix Monaghan, Certified Meditation Teacher & Former PR Agency Founder

  • "Laura is an incredible resource and a true champion for female entrepreneurs. She brings a rare combination of calm, clarity, and strategic insight, helping me turn ideas into a clear, actionable plan that aligned with both my goals and my capacity. What stood out most was her unwavering optimism and confidence as I navigated the challenges of building something new. Stepping into business ownership can feel vulnerable, but Laura helped me pause, reset, and reconnect with genuine excitement for the path ahead. So thankful to have her as a guide on this journey."

Common Questions

  • I work with solo entrepreneurs building businesses on their own, as well as founders who have teams of employees. Most of my clients are service-based professionals selling their knowledge and time, not products.

  • “Thought leadership” is a marketing term for someone who has built credibility and visibility around their expertise. You don’t need to label yourself a thought leader to succeed. The real focus is building authority—being clearly known for what you do and trusted for how you think.

  • I use AI as a thinking partner—not a replacement for strategy, judgment, or original thinking.

    In practice, that looks like:

    • Research: I use tools like Perplexity AI to analyze industries to inform SWOTs.

    • Synthesis: NotebookLM helps me distill themes from client questionnaires and call transcripts. This content is pulled from my own Google drive, not the broader web.

    • Editing: Tools like Hemingway Editor help catch typos and tighten readability.

    • Prototyping: I use Claude (Artifacts) to quickly mock up content structures or layout ideas before building in Canva.

    • SEO insights: I’ll often use Google Gemini to provide on-page search optimizations for client websites.

Most of my client tools—like Loom, Squarespace, and Canva—have built-in AI features that I sometimes use. But I often don’t rely on them, because they’re not consistently at the standard I need for client work.

I’m also actively testing emerging tools like Lovable and Claude Code to identify practical ways AI can improve workflows for my clients—especially women entrepreneurs running lean businesses.

What I don’t do: I don’t rely on AI to generate final client-facing messaging or strategy. Every deliverable is shaped, refined, and approved by me.

Data privacy matters: I don’t input sensitive client information into AI tools, and I configure settings to minimize or eliminate data sharing wherever possible.

  • We can do whatever works for you. This includes calls, emails, texts, and voice memos. I also use Loom for async video updates and walkthroughs, which helps reduce unnecessary meetings while keeping the momentum going.

  • Payments are accepted via Zelle, Venmo, or check.

  • That’s great to hear! I frequently work alongside existing teams as a strategic partner, especially during inflection points where clearer positioning, messaging, or direction is needed. While I’m not a fractional CMO, I’m open to opportunities that are a fit for my expertise.

  • I occasionally bring in trusted specialists for areas outside my core focus such as paid ad campaigns. This isn’t standard for every project, but I do it when it improves the outcome for the client.
